LifeTies Mentoring

The LifeTies Mentoring program pairs youth with trained volunteer mentors with the goal to provide the presence of caring adults for youth. Trained volunteer mentors can help youth improve self-esteem, develop positive habits, strengthen social leadership and resiliency skills, identify educational and career interests, set goals, broaden horizons, participate in social activities, and have fun. Pairing youth with a mentor can support a path to a safe and healthy future.

Program services include job shadowing, exploring post-secondary institutions, participation in recreational and social activities, exploring career paths, and more.

 

Referral Information 

This is an open referral program and referrals can be accepted from any stakeholder, including family, probation, CMO, community based organization. Services are available to youth, age 10-21, who would benefit from the support of a caring mentor, and including but not limited to:

  • Mercer County youth who are at-risk or youth who have a minor offense in the youth justice system 
  • youth who identify as LGBTQIA+ 
  • youth who have been affected by a family member's addiction or who have experienced loss to addiction

Be a Mentor

Do you want to make a difference? Are you patient, flexible, and a good listener? Volunteer your time to make a difference in a young person's life.

Mentors are needed to provide youth with guidance and support. As a mentor you can spend quality time with a young person to improve their self-esteem, promote positive youth development, and help them deal with day to day challenges. Mentors make a 12 month committment to work with youth on an ongoing basis and a minimum of four hours per month. Mentors must be at least 21 years of age and pass all background clearances.
